Dr. Brian Miller, a practicing hospitalist and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and a Nonresident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, has been named to the North Carolina State Health Plan Board of Trustees, State Treasurer Brad Briner announced today.
Dr. Miller also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, where he has taught an MBA course on health insurance for almost a decade.

Today, the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first GIP/GLP-1 called “Zepbound” for the purpose of weight loss. The drug is manufactured by Eli Lily and contains tirzepatide, the same active ingredient already present in an existing medication called Mounjaro. The State Health Plan (SHP) added Mounjaro to its approved list of pharmaceuticals for the purpose of treating diabetes effective Jan. 1, 2024.
