Treasurer Briner Donates First Loan Repayment For Hurricane-Affected Communities

Treasurer Brad Briner took out his personal checkbook today to pay off the first loan repayment due for the Cashflow Loan Program. The loans, which were distributed last year to Hurricane Helene-affected communities, had an initial, nominal $1 repayment due this fiscal year. As many communities are still continuing their recovery efforts, the treasurer wants to take one clerical action off their plates.

“Communities in Western North Carolina need to concentrate their efforts on making themselves whole again, not on jumping through an administrative hoop,” said Treasurer Briner. “I am happy to make this small donation on behalf of the 100-plus loans that have been sent out.”

The Department of State Treasurer administered the Cashflow Loan Program through disaster relief funding provided by the General Assembly. To date over $150 million has been distributed to communities in need. These are interest-free loans that are meant to bridge the gap as communities wait for federal disaster relief funds to arrive.
