The 12-week pilot program between the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer (DST) and OpenAI found millions of dollars in potential unclaimed property that could soon be on its way back to North Carolinians. The partnership was formed to see how artificial intelligence could be used to help improve government services. After three months, DST’s initial findings show operational efficiency has been improved in key areas of our department, allowing us to better serve the people of North Carolina.
Treasurer Brad Briner made his first “big check” presentation at Shaw University.  Briner was able to get $59,790 back to the University as part of the state’s NC Cash Program.Shaw leaders initially found the property and came to the Department of State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division to see how they could get it back.  The team worked together to get the vendor checks, credit balances from other businesses and more back to the school.Briner met with Shaw University President Dr. Paulette Dillard on Friday to present the check.

State Treasurer Dale R. Folwell, CPA, weaved around food stands, farm animals and the Ferris wheel at the North Carolina State Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 23, to get to his favorite booth: The Department of State Treasurer’s (DST) Unclaimed Property Division (UPD) kiosk for a sizable check presentation to the Cary-based Triangle Literacy Council.
