The Cash Club

The Cash Club will be a statewide financial literacy initiative led by the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer; the organization named the 2026 Government Organization of the Year for Financial Literacy by the Institute for Financial Literacy. You have the opportunity to serve as one of the first schools for this initiative.

High schools, home schools, outside of school clubs and others are encouraged start these new Financial Literacy Clubs (The Cash Club). This is an exciting opportunity to build real-world money management skills in a fun and engaging environment. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities and club meetings, students will explore topics from our Finance Fridays newsletter.

The best part? This is a one-stop shop for club leaders and advisors. The Department of State Treasurer is doing all the heavy lifting to create topics, talking points, activities and even quizzes. This will all be compiled into a downloadable PDF packet hosted directly on the NC Department of State Treasurer's website, with hyperlinks to every resource a student leader or advisor needs. Everything is in one place, ready to go, so any meeting can be pulled up and run without needing to search for materials or build anything from scratch. From day one, the club will have a complete, organized curriculum already waiting for it.

This page includes examples of what members and advisors can expect and where they can find all information related to lesson plans, activities, resources and competitions (soon to be announced) designed to help students become financially confident and future-ready. More info will be provided soon.

Description

Cash Club - Financial Literacy Club

Who: Any high school or out of school organization with education curriculum
What: Weekly club to make financial literacy easily accessibly
When: Beginning in Fall semester of 2026-2027 school year
Where: Your school, home school or where your outside of school club typically meets
Why: Only 65% of adults can correctly answer basic financial literacy questions, and that number drops significantly among young people. The Cash Club exists to change that.

Mission: The club's mission is straightforward: to give students real, practical financial knowledge before they graduate. Most students encounter these topics too briefly and too late in high school, with little time to develop any real understanding. The Cash Club fills that gap. Meetings are built around the award-winning Finance Fridays newsletter, with each topic expanded into teaching slides, activities, discussions, review questions and scholarship spotlights every week. Guest speakers can be brought in throughout the year to connect these concepts to real careers and real decisions students will face after graduation.
